This is a special device for business users in need of both a tablet as well as a notebook, but do not want to carry around two devices.Īn alternative for the HP convertible is obviously the MS Surface Pro, even though the comparison is rather misleading. This, combined with the glossy display surface limit the usage scenarios. We think the display should be improved it does provide a good contrast, but the luminance is too low. If you invest a few more Euros, you can also get the convertible with an integrated 3G/LTE modem. The whole package is rounded off by several business features such as TPM, fingerprint scanner and SmartCard reader. You also get a good keyboard that meets the requirements of prolific writers. It could be replaced by a module with a higher capacity if necessary, because it is a standard M.2-SSD. The device is usually quiet or even silent and does hardly get warm. The processor provides sufficient performance for common tasks.

The HP Pro x2 612 G1 is a business detachable with a 12.5-inch screen. Our review unit does not come with an input pen, but it is available for around 30 Euros (~$33).

The necessary driver (Wacom Digitizer Pen Driver) is available in the driver section of HP’s website. After the upgrade, we found a "Wacom Device" in the device manager without a driver, but the problem was easily solved. We skipped this step and just upgraded to Windows 10, which was very simple. Windows attempts to download updates with a total size of 2.2 GB. The convertible comes with a preloaded version of Windows 8.1 Pro (64-bit), so you do not get the latest operating system. On the right side of the dock is an HP docking port, which can be used with the optional HP 2013 UltraSlim docking station, for instance. There are also two USB 3.0 ports on the keyboard dock as well as two video outputs. Note: The tablet ports cannot be used when the tablet is attached to the docking station. Among others, the tablet element offers a full-size USB 3.0 port. There is no shortage of ports on the Detachable. The travel unit is lighter and protects the tablet with a cover, but it does not have a battery. HP also offers an optional travel keyboard (around 220 Euros/~$239) as an alternative to the supplied unit. Both the tablet and the docking station have their own batteries. It could also be more robust as you can easily twist it. We cannot find any build quality issues with the keyboard, either. The top is silver-colored and the bottom is black. The supplied Power Keyboard is also made of sturdy plastic, but it is not a Folio keyboard.
There is not much to criticize in terms of the build quality, but the tablet could be more robust since you can twist it quite a lot. The tablet element is made entirely of black plastics and the lid is rubberized.
